THEY'RE HERE!

Oh, man. Sorry I completely missed yesterday. It wasn't a choice of mine...the internet decided to abandon me and leave me in the dust in the morning. I'm still having issues with the internet, and I promised myself that I'd never take it for granted. Ever. AGAIN. I didn't realize how much I use it!

Anyway! Did you watch the Opening Ceremony for the Olympics last night? I think i was the only person in town who had no idea what time it would air, and even after asking another oblivious person at the grocery store, I still had no idea until 30 minutes before it was about to begin.

My parents are in town for the weekend, and my mom was with me, so we were booking it back home. We made it! Obviously, my question for you comes to mind:

I just about died when they included Mr. Bean in the ceremony. If you watched it, what was your favorite part?

I'm so excited to watch the swimming and gymnastics. Speaking of swimming, this video of the USA swim team of their own rendition of "Call Me Maybe" has been floating around. I got a kick out of it yesterday.

What are looking forward to watching?

I'M HERE TODAY

Hello, hello! I'm over at my friend Julia's blog, Zoorebellion, today for a guest post about my very own city.

I promise you'll learn a few things about San Antonio and get to see a glimpse into this pretty city if you come take a look.

While you're there, you should definitely check out Zoorebellion a little bit. Julia has lived in seven different countries, and she shares her optimistic view of the world through personal photos and inspirational sites. How crazy would it be to travel the world as much as she has??

Have a wonderful Thursday! It's almost Friday, guys!! :)

MORE EATS

I must have some kind of problem today because I realized I'm posting all about food. Ah, never mind, it's always on my mind.

This turned out to be an impulse buy when I was supposed to be only picking up Crystal Light at the store. Guess what? I remembered to get a bunch of other items until my hands were completely full, and then a sweet lady was giving out sushi samples.

Sigh. I couldn't resist. And of course I forgot to get the main thing I was supposed to buy in the first place. Double sigh.

Oh well! That sushi was worth it.

EARLY START

I finally made a legitimate breakfast rather than shoving a granola bar down my throat while downing it with orange juice. You know what they say...breakfast is the most important meal of the day! I agree wholeheartedly.

I have to remind myself to take out extra time in the mornings. We took a walk, made food, and I even read part of a new book. I love this article by Leo Babauta from Zen Habits about the benefits of waking up early. Even though I have trouble getting into routines, I don't think it's impossible to learn how.

So, step number one: Get up earlier, Danie! You'll thank yourself.

And you?

OVER THE WEEKEND

Hi, guys! How was your weekend?

Here are a few snaps I took while I was in Austin. I'm sure I looked a little weird sitting in Starbucks taking photos, but it's something I'm (sort of) getting accustomed to. It's an amazing feeling to let go and stop worrying about how other people might perceive you based on what you're doing. It's also nice to sit quietly and just observe. Do you ever do that?

FYI, I pretty much squealed out loud with excitement when I finally (but accidentally) figured out how to make the foreground sharp and the background blurry:

My husband and I used to order Vanilla Bean Frappuccinos all the time when we "liked" each other in high school. Some people despise Starbucks just for the fact that it's so commercialized, but I think I'll always love it. After all, it's been my go-to place to spend days writing papers while in school, it's been my haven for quietly spending time alone, and it's the place that houses so many sweet memories with friends, not to mention frothy drinks and moist, chocolately-banana cakes. Yep. I definitely spent time here in Austin.

Here's some stuff I usually lug around with me: shoulder bags, a little gold bracelet, men's watches, a cheap woven bracelet that my husband bought me in Hawaii (it's one of my most loved adornments), and my wedding ring (my VERY most loved piece). My guy got it custom made in our hometown. I have no idea what I'll do if I ever lose it...okay, now I don't want to jinx myself.

Just a couple of shots while spending time downtown compared to wasting time in the hotel.

Eh, sorry on this one. I was meaning to take a photo of our amazing wood-fire-grilled sandwiches from this place, but of course I attacked the food as usual without thinking about anything else. This place is called Puccia's, and they serve food out of a little trailer. Weird, you ask? No, no, the opposite. It. is. AWESOME. Mouthwatering, to be exact.

What did you do this weekend?

IN AUSTIN

...I'm with the boy in Austin for the weekend! He has a conference, and I have some serious shopping to do. Kidding. Sort of.

I thought the least I could do was give you one more sneek of what's to come in the upcoming guest post. Miraculously, I didn't feel like a total dork yesterday while sauntering around the streets alone, taking photos of the breezy, overcast world around me in hopes of capturing a handful of acceptable photos to share with you. It was a wonderful experience, and it's on my list to do something like that again in the very near future.

I'm checking out of Starbucks for now! Toodoloo! (I can't believe I just said that).

Have a wonderful weekend. :)

THINGS TO DO, PLACES TO GO

You know, as they say: there are things to do, places to go! Here are a few of mine today:

I'm FINALLY going to send a little gift in the mail to a dear friend of mine. I've been meaning to do this forever, people. It's a big accomplishment in my book.

I need to spend a little time in the hot sun downtown so I can show the interesting parts of San Antonio for a guest post for a friend. I have some nature photos covered, but it's time to show the actual city!

Sorry Charlie, but you're only allowed sneak peeks for the time being. ;) I'll let you know when the actual post is up!

Meanwhile, I've been listening to my iTunes for a change, and Lady Gaga's "Alejandro" was followed by Imogen Heap's "First Train Home." I've missed listening to these ladies! *Que solo dance party"

What are you doing today??

TIME TO UPDATE

I love the way Diane von Furstenburg stages clothing. It's symmetrical, clean, and fresh. The shots and pieces are reminding me that my drawings need to be updated for summer.

Illustration is my own

Fall, I know you're approaching soon, but I'm going to finish out this summer strong. After all, I haven't had enough of it yet.

A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR YOU

Guys, I went bike riding for the first time in about 100 years this morning. At first, it was EXHILARATING. I would shout to my husband about how wonderful it feels, how pretty everything is, how I can't wait to do this every morning...until about 25 minutes later, when we were no longer riding downhill. Let me tell you, to say that I was huffing and puffing back to the house (all uphill, mind you), is really just an understatement. I just hope no walkers/drivers could see the look on my face as I crept uphill on my purple aluminum bike wearing my fantastically blinding neon yellow shirt. My husband's bike got really squeaky as we biked uphill, and I had to stop myself from even smiling, because I had the fear that if I laughed, I would just slide back downhill and end up on the pavement with a mangled bike on top of me.

Anyway! Now that I'm still alive, I wanted to share something with you:
When I'm shopping, you're likely to find me in the back of the store cramming my body through clothing racks in hopes of finding my steal of the day. I thought it would be nice to extend the same opportunity to you online (minus the cramming during the hunt).

Right now, these pretties are available at my little shop at Etsy. The sale price is for one print (originally $25.00).

Happy Tuesday!

YOUR WEEKEND

...should be filled with phrases and sights like this:

This was our sight in the backyard a few hours ago while I was chasing the dog around. Well...to be honest, I was lazily standing there in my yoga pants and glasses, slapping my hands on my thighs while Xena RAN like a madwoman all over the place. It just doesn't take that much to amuse me.

Hope you have a beautiful weekend!

SUMMER

Happy Friday, everyone! I've had this little lady for months by now, and I think she deserves to show her face.

She is, in my eyes, the epitome of Summer:

The illustration of one of its varying days is what makes it perfect: the sight of the sun early in the mornings, lighting up the bedroom filled with soft cotton pillows and sheets; hearing songs of cicadas lounging in mocha-colored branches of swaying trees outside the house; the feel of fresh, cool showers with the warm sun beaming through the curtains, the touch of soft linen scarves tied around tousled brown waves; the tart taste of plants and herbs from the tiny, thriving garden to be used in homemade recipes with sweet fruit for dessert; lying in the green, sweeping blades on the white sheet, looking up at the movement of the puffy clouds swimming their way across the piercing blue sky; and the lingering of the golden sun late into the evenings as the crickets prepare for melodies late into nightfall.

I love Summer for so many other reasons as well, and I can't help but really look forward to it every year.

So what about you? Are you a Summer lover?

MORNING LOVES

What do you do when it's been raining all morning? You take yourself outside, watch your dog "bite" the raindrops from your chair on the patio, and take in the scents and sounds, all while sipping on chai tea, of course.

Just kidding. You don't HAVE to do all of the above...but it sure is nice.

When you come from a place where rain is rare, it's hard not to relish in it. I'm hoping it will rain into the night and maybe even thunderstorm a little. Isn't that the best way to sleep? My five-year-old self would severely disagree. After all, every time a big storm would come our way, I would gallop around the house in utter fear, squeezing my cheeks and telling my parents I hoped we wouldn't all die. Shortly afterwards, I would run to the innermost closet on the first floor of our home and lock myself in there for at least ten minutes until I was sure that the worst had passed.

Now, I open the windows when it's raining and say "ooohh, ahhh" when I see lighting and hear thunder. Don't worry, I close the windows when it's a total storm. I'm not THAT crazy / brave.

Hearing all this rumbling and pitter patter makes me think of this song by Enya. Don't call me corny.

How is it where you are?

I'M THANKFUL

Hello everyone! Oh my gosh, I've been missing these past two weeks more than I've meant to. I'm sorry about that!

For those of you that celebrate it, Happy (late) Fourth of July! It's amazing that we have free will to live as we want and be what we want to be. I know that I take it for granted, and I need to remember how lucky I am to have freedom every day.

Whether you were celebrating or not, I hope you all have had a great past few days! I'm thinking of all of you here in hot Texas. :)

A LOVE OF MINE

Now that I'm trying to learn photography, I keep finding myself getting lovestruck with the smallest things...sun flares, for example, make my day.

In school, I used to freak out about whether or not I was doing something correctly. A type of perfectionism like that can suck the fun out of any project. People always have personal opinions of what makes art beautiful, what classifies a good photo, writing that's worthwhile, you name it...and I used to worry A LOT about meeting others' expectations.

I'm so inspired by people who take the initiative to start learning about something foreign to them, and they keep practicing, making mistakes, and learning from those mistakes.

As for me, I want to practice capturing and creating the small things in life that make me happy, even it sporadically involves phones, disposable cameras, old sketchbook paper, and broken pencils. You never know what you may end up with.

What about you?
