MEOW!

I designed this poster cat for our Halloween party last weekend, and it's sole purpose was supposed to be for a game of 'pin the tail on the kitty,' but we never actually got around to pinning tails that night. Oh well, it's now perched beside our front door to welcome tiny Trick-or-Treaters.

Speaking of cats, one of my friends (a photographer) had me laughing out loud when she told me about the new fad wedding photographers are doing--photoshopping cats in place of bouquets. So of course, she played with an image from one of the weddings she recently shot and stuck a cat in the photo with all the bridesmaids lunging for the flying cat. Ridiculous.

When we hand out candy tonight, Clay is going to be Fred Flinstone, I'll be Wilma, and Xena will be an angry Pebbles. She really hates wearing that stuffed bone on top of her little head, and I'm guessing it'll stay put for less than ten minutes if we're lucky.

Happy Halloween, you little monsters!

UNFINISHED

Hey! Just popping in tonight to share what happened the other night during graphic designer's block. At least I can manage to be creative in some other way while I'm ridiculously unproductive at other things during the same moment...such as getting a logo right, for instance!

I'm itching to add line weights and blocks of color to this one, for sure.

Oh, and I'm listening to Madness by Muse at this moment, thanks to my husband, who happens to share the same office space with me and has his desk situated directly behind me. Good thing we're mostly agreeable when it comes to music, huh?

SO FAR, SO GOOD + A SWEET LITTLE GIFT

Got this sweet little gift in the mail today from a dear friend of mine (the same friend that I'm working on a new logo for).  I was definitely surprised, seeing as I was still in a robe, and Xena was promptly at the feet of the poor FedEx deliverer. She was trying to simultaneously humiliate me (success) and ferociously bark at the man standing over her (half-success), who was merely minding his own business and attempting to leave as quickly as possible.

Isn't it so cute? I really hope I don't kill it. Surely it won't be that difficult to keep alive, so fingers crossed for a long and fruitful life!

Here's what we've narrowed down so far for the logo, if you'd like to see:

We're not 100% sure yet on how the layout of the logo will look, and after designing countless arrows, we were able to choose one arrow design, and we're now down to five color options.

We're leaning toward a favorite already, thank goodness.

Thoughts? :)

EARLY MORNINGS

I almost saw the sunrise this morning, until I decided to lie back down for just a second, which caused me to completely miss it all. Next time, right?

We threw a joint-Halloween party this weekend, and I have to admit that while we had a blast, I think I'm getting older and feel partied out. I'm going to try extra-hard to actually decorate outside for the adorable trick-or-treaters that come to our door every year, and I think I'm covered, thanks to leftover decor from the party, which I lugged home with us, much to my husband's dismay.
I'm feeling pretty mellow at the moment, designing away and listening to Jack Johnson. Watch this music video of his. Dare you not to grin a little.

Hope you had a great weekend!

SO MANY FEATHERS

I think you'd probably laugh at me if you realized how much I've scrutinized feathers for the past few days.

I'm still working on the Chic Shot project, and we're narrowing down arrow designs to go with the logo. I can see the finish line with this one! Very excited to see our current design morph into the final this next week.

Anyway, here are some feathery outtakes. These pretties might just have to be added to the shop. I love them that much!
Happy Wednesday to you.

DIRT & WEDDINGS

I've been working with a dog that enjoys tracking every piece of mud from the backyard into the living room, and of course I can't help but take pictures of her poor little soul.

That face...how could you possibly get annoyed with a look like that gazing up at you? I promptly forgot to clean up the dirt, and it didn't get taken care of until my sweet guy saw it and took care of it.

One thing I did remember to take care of, though, is designing a new logo for some of my dearest friends who run and own Chic Shot Studio, a wedding photography business based out of Florida. We're right in the middle of the design process, and I'm really hoping we can stay on schedule to finish by the end of the month.

Since this work has been revolving around weddings, I got sucked into the vast spiral of looking through countless wedding shots. Consequently I became inspired and couldn't resist forcing Clay to give me his ring when he came home from work yesterday to take shots of our rings on one of the most dangerous plants we own. It's a gorgeous plant, but those pokey spikes attack me every time I get close to it. Oh, the pain. SO worth getting a pretty shot, nonetheless.
Have a great weekend!

LATELY

Hey guys! I meant to post before leaving for my little hometown, but it just didn't end up happening.

When I was driving back to San Antonio and trying to dodge the rain (a success), I couldn't restrain myself from pulling over to capture Texas and its beauty. It's strange how the highway is suddenly so still and quiet after getting out of the car that was traveling 75 miles per hour, air-conditioning on, and music blaring. All I could hear now was the soft wind, my shoes silently crunching in the grass, and the occasional car or semi truck barrel past me.

Here's what I saw:
Can you almost feel the cool breeze and smell the rain in the distance?
And of course, the sun peeked out every now and then. What a pretty change as the sun dipped in and out of the clouds.
Now...finally back to work! That's not always a bad thing. :)

OVER THE WEEKEND

We're really starting to feel it.

That crisp air, the cool breeze, and the piercing bright blue sky without a cloud to be seen in it is making me hope that Fall will be on its way sooner than later here in Texas.
While we were on a walk, I couldn't help but go run back into the house to grab the camera sitting on my desk in the office and try to show you how pretty Sunday was.

My husband is working on a really cool project that's been keeping him up until wee hours of the mornings, and it's SO hard, as I'm trying my very best to provide emotional support by staying up with him. I'd like to go back in time to 2009 and ask my college senior self how she possibly could pull all-nighters and actually function the next day, because my current 27-year-old self doesn't remember how to magically make that happen anymore.
When I find myself actually awake, I can't help but notice how pretty everything is when the sun is up.

I'm so ready for sweaters, scarves, and tall boots again! And a more normal sleep schedule, of course.
¿Y tĂș?

A FEW FROM ZURICH

When we were in Zurich, the only request Clay had was to rent bikes (which were free!) and go ride them around for most of a day. I think I must have misunderstood, picturing a gigantic smile slapped on my face with the wind rolling through my hair while we rode along a sparkling lake like this.

Approximately one hour into our disastrous bike ride, I was stopped in the median with cars whirring by us probably going no less than 50 miles per hour, frantically clutching to my handlebars for dear life. I'm definitely not an adventurous person when it comes to the combination of bikes, cars, and uphill, narrow roads with bike lanes that suddenly go from visible to non-existant.

Needless to say, Clay had to care for an oversized baby (me) until we were able to get back to the view pictured above, where I ended up happily riding my bike at a slow, leisurely speed, and not one car in sight.
This route was much calmer. When there are a bunch of dads pushing fashionable strollers down the walkway, I know that I'm back in the safety zone.
And yes, we did swim in that chilled, sunny water. Perfecto. :) More on that later sometime.

FEELING FANCY

I'll be the first in line to tell you that I'm a proud huntress of good deals in the shopping zone.

Because of my intense need to find the perfect price, I never actually found a grown-up purse that I actually felt 100% professional and pretty carrying.

That all changed about a week ago when I fell in love with this perfect leather purse sitting pretty in the backlit store display shelf. I was completely planning on looking for another 6 months for a similar bag, but my plan backfired when I actually showed it to my mom and unsuccessfully tried to ignore the salesman's plea to take the plunge.
I don't think I'll stop being paranoid about keeping this thing as clean as possible until the day I die. What a pretty thing it is.
...as are these shoes, which I managed to snag at $20. Now THAT is what I call a bargain.

Been shopping lately?
